Fasting and the Urinary Tract Infection

Several years ago I read a fascinating book called Fasting and Eating for Health: A Medical Doctor's Program for Conquering Disease by Dr. Joel Fuhrman, M.D. Dr. Fuhrman looks at the classic pure water fast and a plant-based diet as a means of healing most 'medical conditions'.

Dr. Fuhrman explains that many of the "illnesses" we believe we have are actually symptoms of our body detoxifying... getting rid of the substances that are foreign and toxic to it.

I once had a session in a local raw vegan restaurant with an iridologist who also 'supervised' fasts. I told him about a water fast that I did back about fifteen years before.   I had had little understanding of what was involved, had just wanted to drop a few pounds, and there I went, onto a week-long water fast. At the end of the seven days I developed a raging bladder infection' and immediately ran off to the doctor to get some lambasting antibiotics to 'clear it up'.

The iridologist chuckled and said that I had been doing a bladder detox and that if I had been supervised, I would have hung in with the fast for however long it took for the detox to complete... probably a couple of days beyond the seven. Very similar to a heroin addict coming off that drug, or any other sort of 'withdrawal' (detox).

He went on to say that the next time I undertook a fast, that I would likely experience "one doozy" of a bladder infection (detox) but that will be it. No more after that.

I suggest you might want to read Dr. Fuhrman's book-- Fasting and Eating for Health: A Medical Doctor's Program for Conquering Disease where he recommends fasting only be done under competent supervision. Read lots and speak to your health care provider.
